COVID-19 Testing - Rapid PCR

Bivalent Vaccine Now Available
05/2023: Second dose of bivalent COVID-19 vaccines approved for individuals 65 years and older, if at least 4 months have passed since the first bivalent booster. Call our office, 816-380-8425 to check eligibility and make an appointment.
09/2023: The authorized bivalent COVID-19 vaccines, or ‘updated boosters’ are now available. The bivalent vaccine was designed to offer protection against both the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 variants as well as the original SARS-CoV-2 variant. Bivalent boosters are available to individuals who have completed their primary series of vaccination. Call our office, 816-380-8425, to check eligibility and make an appointment.
Moderna
- Moderna has received full approval for individuals 6 months of age and older.
- Individuals 6 months – 5 years of age
- Unvaccinated individuals: Two doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent are administered. The second dose is administered 1 month after the first.
- Individuals who have received one dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine: A single dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered 1 month after the dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine.
- Individuals who have received two doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine: A single dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered at least 2 months after the last dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine.
- Individuals 6 years of age and older
- Unvaccinated individuals: A single dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent.
- Individuals who have received one or more doses of any monovalent COVID-19 vaccine: A single dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered at least 2 months after any monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.
- Individuals 65 years of age and older who have received one dose of a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine: A dose of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent may be administered at least 4 months after the dose of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine.
Pfizer
- Pfizer has received approval for individuals 6 months of age and older.
- Individuals 6 months through 4 years of age
- Unvaccinated individuals 2: Three doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent are administered over at least 11 weeks. The first two doses are administered three weeks apart. The third dose is administered at least 8 weeks after the second dose.
- Individuals who have received one dose of the monovalent Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine: Two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent are administered. The first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is given three weeks after the monovalent Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine and the second dose at least 8 weeks later.
- Individuals who have received two doses of the monovalent Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine: A single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered at least 8 weeks after the monovalent Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine.
- Individuals who have received three doses of the monovalent Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine: A single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered at least 2 months after the monovalent Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine.
- Individuals 5 years of age and older
- Unvaccinated individuals: A single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19
Vaccine, Bivalent. - Individuals who have received one or more doses of a monovalent COVID-19 vaccine: A single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent is administered at least 2 months after any monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.
- Individuals 65 years of age and older who have received one dose of a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine: A dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent may be administered at least 4 months after the dose of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine.
- Unvaccinated individuals: A single dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19
Novavax
- The Cass County Health Department does not currently administer Novavax vaccine.
Janssen/J&J
- The Cass County Health Department does not currently administer Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Mixing COVID-19 Vaccines
If the same vaccine that a patient received previously is not available, a mixed series of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) may be administered

Resolution No. 21-62 of the Cass County Commission
The Cass County Health Department (CCHD) is no longer permitted to require the isolation of any person who tests positive for COVID-19 or the quarantine of any person who is identified as a close contact to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The resolution does not apply to disease control measures for other communicable diseases.
CCHD will continue to investigate new COVID-19 cases and make those cases aware of CDC recommendations regarding isolation. CCHD will also continue to notify contacts of positive cases and will make them aware of CDC recommendations for contacts. Further, any person currently quarantined or isolated related to COVID-19 is now released from their quarantine and isolation, even if their quarantine/isolation period has not ended.
The Cass County Health Department strongly urges individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 and those who are close contacts to individuals who have tested positive to follow the CDC's recommendations regarding isolation and quarantine. Please see the link below for more information.
